This is the full service restoration treatment for window sashes. We remove the sashes, block the window opening to protect the jambs and interior, and bring the sashes back to our workshop for a complete restoration. During a complete restoration, sashes are deglazed, stripped of old paint, and glass is cleaned or replaced if missing. Window sashes are repaired or wooden components are replaced if necessary. Sashes are reasssembled with fresh linseed oil glazing and clean glass, repainted interior and exterior faces in historic linseed oil paints, and hardware is restored, removing paint or rust, oiled and reinstalled when sashes are rehung upon return, with new cotton sash cord. A fully restored sash is reinstalled to operate smoothly when returned, with optional spring bronze weatherstripping added if desired (at additional cost).

This service provides care for a sash in place, not a full restoration. Maybe the sash operates and is in good working condition but a glass pane needs replacing, or a spot repair is needed for glazing or wood rot is present and a repair can be made with epoxy. We can also provide spot paint removal and touchups.

We provide care and expertise to get your windows open and moving again, such as liberating a stuck sash, reroping a sash, replacing missing or defective parting beads, spot paint removal when buildup interferes with window function, lubricate/adjust existing hardware, and/or replacing interior stops.
